Lurking At Night
After an announcement nearly 6 years ago and a successful crowdfunding campaign, Fortnite finally released in mid-2017. The game revolves around a team of four players fighting against evil monsters rampaging across the land. These are some of the best-commented features by the game's players:
. It has great graphics
. It is very fun to play
. It allows multiplay
. Its dances and emotes are incredible, especially the Fancy Feet Emote.
The action takes places in a number of stages, with teams first looting abandoned buildings and towns for gear and weapons. Collectables can then be used to improve bases, upgrade characters and build traps for the regular night time arrival of a huge gang of monsters. Battles are then fought at the player crafted bases with a range of weaponry and defenses. This mix of survival and crafting works well for the most part despite a slight sense of awkwardness.
Party Themed Battle Royale
Fortnite tries to be two separate games at once without becoming a real combination of the two. The strong multiplayer focus and fast-paced action offer a great gaming experience, however. The Battle Royale mode is both a very entertaining and competitive environment, comparable to the more serious and action-packed Battlefield series. Victories are determined by dexterity, strategy, luck, and creativity. It's a great alternative for die-hard fans of games like PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS and Rules of Survival who wishes for a more colorful and meme filed entertainment.
A More Casual Side
Fortnite included a sandbox mode called Creative mode where players access a private server on an island. They are given the freedom of building infrastructures, as well as manipulating game objects. Players can either invite others for sandbox experience or participate in community-built games. Other than the community based or competitive modes, Fortnite has extra activities like mini-games, limited edition challenges, and even in-game concerts. EDM producer Marshmello hosted a live concert on February 2, 2019. The 10-minute concert utilized the structure of Team Rumble mode. Players can still respawn and go back to the concert if they got knocked out by the invading monsters who tried to ruin the free concert.
Crafting and Fun Combat
Fortnite is a light-hearted game with a number of separate gameplay modes. The almost-cartoon graphical style adds a touch of humor to the apocalypse setting, complimenting the game's tone. While there are some issues with balance, there is still lots of frantic fun on offer.
